Dear friends and supporters of the orphans in Lahore!
I am writing to you because I have just received a real emergency call from Pakistan from our closest colleague, Sajal Javed. It seems that the war in Iran is spreading to more and more countries. Pakistan is now also being drawn further and further into this conflict. The economic consequences are difficult to predict. Not only are petrol and oil becoming unaffordable for ordinary people in these countries, but food prices in particular have more than doubled in almost all areas and are now almost unaffordable for the poorer sections of the population. Added to this is the current boycott of Afghanistan, whose coal supplies have not only provided warmth but also heating fuel for the many brickworks in the country. Jobs, especially those of Christians in the brickworks, are also at great risk. If the war situation in and around Iran does not ease soon, there is a threat of a famine of unknown proportions, not in Africa, where such news is familiar, but in a country that believed it had long since left this level of food shortages and inflation behind.
Below is a letter from Ms. Sajal Javed, which I asked her to address to all friends and helpers:
Lahore, Pakistan, 10 March 2026
Urgent request for immediate aid for orphans and widows in Pakistan Lahore
Dear Sirs and Madams, dear brothers and sisters in our shared faith in our Lord Jesus Christ,
I am writing to you with an urgent request for immediate financial aid for brickmakers in need, who are currently facing a serious crisis in Pakistan.
Due to the current instability and unrest in the country, the operation of brick kilns has been severely affected. The shortage of coal and the sharp rise in prices have forced many kilns to reduce or cease production. As a result, day labourers who are completely dependent on this work have lost their main source of income.
At the same time, the cost of staple foods and essential household items has risen dramatically. Staple foods such as flour, cooking oil, sugar and vegetables have become significantly more expensive, making it extremely difficult for families who are already in need to meet their daily needs.
Among those most affected are widows and orphans who work in brick kilns and bear the enormous responsibility of providing for their children and households. With limited income opportunities and rising living costs, many of these women struggle to provide even basic food for their families.
In light of this urgent situation, we humbly request emergency funds to provide immediate assistance to brick kiln workers, especially widows and the most vulnerable families. Your support will help ensure access to essential food and basic necessities during this critical time.
Your timely assistance can bring immediate relief and hope to families struggling to survive.
Thank you for your compassion and prompt assistance!
